(SANILAC COUNTY) -- The Sanilac County Finance and Administration Committee met Tuesday afternoon and heard from State Senator Phil Pavlov. Pavlov, who represents St. Clair and Lapeer counties, said that lawmakers are in the process of finalizing Michigan's 2014 budget, which is set to be released in February. He adds that the economy is expanding throughout the state, in part due to a spike in home values and increased income tax collections. Pavlov also said that there were 182,000 new jobs in Michigan in 2013, dropping the state's unemployment rate down to 8.5 percent. In other business, committee members granted Circuit Court Judge Donald Teeple's request to fill two positions in the court. Commissioners also adopted the final 2014 budget on a three to two vote, with commissioners Ruby and Faber voting against the measure.
