(BROWN CITY) -- The Brown City School Board approved the appointment of district teacher Sean Hagey to fill the Elementary Principal position effective February 1. Hagey will assume the duties in the Elementary from outgoing Principal Doug Muxlow, who will take over the Superintendent position. Superintendent Jerry Steigerwald is retiring. Hagey shared a few goals and visions with the board Monday night regarding a positive student recognition system and teacher evaluations. He stated that he is looking forward to the new challenge.
In other business, the board approved second semester budget reductions. The Elementary Computer Lab Aide will not be replaced. The board also approved moving the Alternative Education Program from its current location in downtown Brown City to the high school campus, reducing personnel based on assessment of enrollment and program needs. During discussion, High School Principal Barry Markwart stated that he is very comfortable with his staff fulfilling the obligations of the program. Board members voted in favor of eliminating the high school mentor position held by Carrie Scott effective January 24. A few scheduling changes in the high school were also made Monday night.
