(AREA) -- An artist from Lathrup Village has won the second annual MI Great Artist contest. Henry Heading's selection was announced Thursday night. He will receive a $1,500 cash prize and five submitted artworks framed by Park West Gallery. Heading said in a statement that "being able to create is an essential part of my life, reflecting my passion and imagination." Heading's primary focus is realism and he paints with oil and acrylics. He also works with wood and metal to build 3-D pieces. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Park West Gallery founder and CEO Albert Scaglione launched the contest to help identify and support up-and-coming artists in the Economic Growth Alliance region. The EGA region includes Oakland, Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Shiawassee and St. Clair counties.
