(SANILAC COUNTY) -- The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday afternoon and held a public hearing on the county's proposed 2014 budget. Sheriff Garry Biniecki spoke to the board about his concern over a $175,000 reduction from what the sheriff's department requested and what was allocated in the budget. Biniecki stated that the cut in funding would prevent the department from operating at their full potential. District one commissioner Dan Dean offered an amendment to increase the 2014 funding by $90,000--that's still $85,000 less than requested. Board members approved the $90,000 increase on a three to two vote, with commissioners Justin Faber and James Ruby voting no on the increased funding. Commissioners voted to table the approval of the 2014 budget until their December 17th meeting. In other business, the board received an update from Lou Wenzloff on the status of the Sanilac Medical Care Facility expansion and renovation. Wenzloff said that the project is proceeding on schedule, and should reach completion by March or April of 2014.
