(MARLETTE) -- Retired school administrator Al Broughton has taken on the task of getting the Marlette School District back on track. After his retirement from Deckerville Community Schools as Superintendent, Mr. Broughton served on an interim basis for both Sandusky and Kingston Community Schools. The Marlette School Board is expected to make Broughton's Interim Superintendent appointment official during their December 10 board meeting. The district is dealing with a financial crisis after having to recently borrow over $1 million from the state to pay bills and meet payroll. Superintendent and Finance Director Jeriann Patterson was placed on paid administrative leave earlier this month pending a financial investigation. The board then hired retired North Branch Schools Finance Director Cheryl Bruff to serve as the Finance Director on a part-time basis for the remainder of the school year.
