Brown Applauds State Grant to Huron Conservation District

(PIGEON) -- The Huron Conservation District has received a grant in the amount of $21,333 from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. According to State Representative Terry Brown of Pigeon, the funding will be used to help Huron County farmers use best practices to reduce sedimentation and nutrient loss from the Sebewaing River Watershed into the Saginaw Bay. The funds, which are part of a multi-year project, are part of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The grant will help farmers become an "environmentally assured and verified farm under the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program," as stated in the grant.
