(MARLETTE) -- The Marlette Board of Education held their regular meeting last night and announced the appointment of a part-time finance director for the district. The need for a new finance director came during a special meeting held last week when the board voted to place Superintendent and Finance Director Jeriann Patterson on paid administrative leave pending a financial investigation. Marlette school board member and chair of the district's finance committee, Sarah Kady, says the board hired Cheryl Bruff to the position.
"She was the public school finance director for North Branch for several years. She's recently retired from North Branch and was more than willing to come work for our district on a part-time basis," Kady says. "She will complete the remaining eight months of the school year for us, and we've retained her for a year at a cost of $24,000. Initially she will work every day in order to get things in order, and then after that she'll work two to three days a week based on all of the financial work that needs to be done."
Meanwhile, the Marlette school board is looking into hiring an interim superintendent for the remainder of the school year. The district's audit is expected to be released before the board's next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, December 10th.
