(PORT HURON) -- Two Port Huron area residents were arrested Wednesday night following a pair of strong armed robberies. St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon says the first took place shortly before 5 p.m. in the Kroger Plaza on 24th Avenue. The female victim informed deputies that a man knocked her down, stole her purse and ran off. About an hour later, another strong armed robbery was reported at the Birchwood Mall in Fort Gratiot Township. The victim reported that a man had come up to her, grabbed her purse and took off. Authorities were unable to locate the suspect. A break in the case happened at around 7:45 p.m. when the victim of the second purse snatching called dispatch, stating that when she called to cancel her credit card, she was told someone had attempted to use it at the Admiral Gas Station on Pine Grove in Port Huron. Police quickly responded to the gas station and checked the surveillance video. Deputies recognized the suspect and set up surveillance at his residence on Pleasant Place in Port Huron. Around 10 p.m. the 33-year old suspect was located driving his vehicle in the area of Pine Grove Ave. and Sedgwick. During a traffic stop, the man and his passenger, a 23-year old Port Huron woman, were arrested. The man remains jailed on charges of strong armed robbery, fraudulent use of a credit card, and possession of suspected heroin. The woman is jailed on a charge of possession of suspected heroin. Both are expected to be arraigned Friday.
