(SEBEWAING) -- Huron County Circuit Court Judge M. Richard Knoblock sentenced 67-year old George Barrett of Sebewaing to 12 to 25 years in prison Monday. Barrett was convicted of assault with intent to murder, assault with a weapon and two felony firearm charges stemming from a shooting incident March 5 in Sebewaing. Authorities say Barrett attempted to shoot his son, but the gun malfunctioned. His son was able to escape from the home and called for help. Barrett came out of his residence with a police perimeter set up and fired his weapon several times. Authorities returned fire and Barrett was struck in the arm. Barrett will serve 10 to 25 years on the assault with intent to commit murder charge and 2-years in prison for the felony firearm charges. The judge also ordered him to pay $1,100 in restitution to the Sebewaing Township Fire Department for the cost of moving people out of the area when the barricaded gunman call came into dispatch.
