High-crime cities to get more state troopers

(AREA) -- State police say some cities facing high crime rates will benefit the most from a new wave of recruits being assigned to posts throughout Michigan. Posts that cover Flint, Pontiac, Detroit and Saginaw will get 62 additional state police troopers between new recruits and transfers of more seasoned officers. Locally, the Lapeer Post will get two new recruits and the Caro Post will have four. The 78 new recruits will be sworn in Friday after a graduation ceremony in Lansing. Local recruits include Anthony Easlick of North Branch, assigned to the Flint Post. Thomas Salcido of Bad Axe was assigned to the Flint Post. Olivia Garlick of Mayville will join the Cadillac Post. Thomas Dhooghe Jr. of North Branch was assigned to the West Branch Post. Zachary Tebedo of Vassar is going to the Tri City Post and Benjamin Woodburn of Port Huron is heading to the Metro Post. Another state police trooper school will begin October 28.
