(HURON COUNTY) -- Quick action and unforeseen luck led to the safe escape of a Harbor Beach man after a live power line landed on the sugar beet transfer cart he was operating Tuesday morning. Huron County Sheriff Sergeant James Hunt was sent to the scene on Toppin Road near Buhl Road shortly before Noon. Sheriff Kelly Hanson says Sgt. Hunt was aware of Detroit Edison trucks in the area and was able to locate the trucks driven by DTE employees David Ahleman of Standish and Eric O'Connell of North Branch. The live wire was found on the sugar beet cart with the tractor driver, 67-year old Larry Sieman, still inside. Sheriff Hanson says the DTE workers were able to cut the power and Siemen got out of the tractor without injury. Authorities say the conveyor on the beet cart was extended and struck the line.
