(BROWN CITY) -- Brown City Schools Superintendent Jerry Steigerwald informed the board of education Monday night of his intention to retire effective January 31. Superintendent Steigerwald stated that the school has been a great place to work as a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent. He noted that its been a privilege to work with a great group of people throughout the years. Mr. Steigerwald recommended to the board that they consider Elementary Principal Doug Muxlow for the position. It was later moved by board member Jim Seidell and supported by Ron Marion to appoint Doug Muxlow to the position of superintendent. Board President Alan Burgess said that he felt the need for more discussion. Jeff Liebler stated that there is no question that Doug is the best person for the job, but added, "I feel we need to have a process. We need to sit down, ask questions and have discussions." The motion was defeated with a 4-2 vote.
In other business, the Brown City School Board heard a presentation on the 2012-2013 district audit, which showed General Fund revenues and other financing sources at $7.7 million and General Fund expenditures and other financing uses at $8.05 million. The fund balance on June 30 was $2,026,033. The Designated Fund balance is $922,895 and the Undesignated Fund balance is $1,106,138.
