(KINDE) -- Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson says his department and the Kinde Village Police Department have been contacted by several concerned citizens regarding student pedestrian traffic at the M-53 and Kinde Road intersection. Hanson says students have been making unsafe crossings, mainly before and after school because North Huron Schools is a "closed campus" during schools hours. The situation became an issue a few weeks ago when a new convenience store opened up on the southwest side of the intersection. Motorists are asked to exercise extreme care and caution when driving through or near the intersection. Sheriff Hanson says parents permitting their children to cross the intersection are advised to talk to their children on how to do so safely. North Huron School officials have been addressing the safety issue for several months and have met with the Michigan Department of Transportation to discuss possible solutions.
