Tigers fan relieved he didn't cost home team HR

DETROIT (AP) - Tigers fan John Bendzinski says he was relieved when a ball he reached for was ruled a homer after video review. No Jeffrey Maier or Steve Bartman for him. Tigers slugger Victor Martinez hit a tying homer in the seventh inning Tuesday night against Oakland in Game 4 of the AL division series that was disputed by the Athletics because two fans appeared to interfere with the ball. Bendzinski was one of the fans in front row of the right-field seats who reached over a railing to try to catch the ball. The season-ticket holder and chef says he knows there are rules against fans reaching over the wall to get balls that are in play. The Tigers, facing elimination, scored another run in the seventh inning.
