(MARLETTE) -- The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday night at the Marlette Township Hall as part of their series of hosting a meeting in each commissioner's district. Commissioners approved measures from last week's Finance and Administration Committee meeting, including an addition to the front of the Sanilac Transportation Company building at a cost not to exceed $800. Commissioners also approved the removal and installation of updated cable wiring for the courthouse and jail's internet network at a cost not to exceed $2,228. The county will begin seeking bids for the replacement of every window in the courthouse. District two commissioner Justin Faber reported that replacing the windows would save 20 percent of the building's heating and cooling costs. Commissioners also moved to begin seeking bids for the resurfacing of the courthouse parking lot. Funding for the project will be taken from the jail contingency fund.
In other business, Diana Schaffer, from the Sanilac County Health Department, gave a presentation on the status of the department. She reported that smoking, obesity, and children living in poverty are all higher in Sanilac County than the state average. Schaffer also reported that Chlamydia is the number one rising STD in Sanilac County, and that heroin use is an emerging problem in the county.
The next meeting in a commissioner's district will be held Tuesday, November 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Speaker Township Hall.
