(AREA) -- Residents are invited to take part in the "Buy Nearby" campaign, sponsored by the Michigan Retailers Association, and shop locally or order online from Michigan retailers. The statewide celebration is happening Saturday, October 5. About half of every dollar spent at a Michigan store goes back into the local economy. More than 850,000 jobs depend directly on retail sales in the state. It is estimated that retail sales are responsible for 18% of Michigan's gross domestic product. Any Michigan retailer can participate in "Buy Nearby" by posting a Buy Nearby poster in their window and tying their promotions and specials to the campaign. Posters are available for download and printing from the Resources and Toolkit section of the Buy Nearby website--www.buynearbymi.com.
