(AREA) -- The Marlette Varsity Cross Country team competed in the Old School Classic in Armada on Saturday. The Red Raiders took 3rd out of 16 teams in the boys division. Eric Poth, Sam Sartin, Marcus Dale, Seth Ferguson and Hayden Harneck all earned medals for Marlette. Alex Herman, Andrew Clark and Ryan Za-wod-ny also ran well for the Raiders. In the girls division, Marlette's medal winners were Lexi Wilhemson, Madison Keyworth and Renee Miller. Julia Hohlman narrowly missed a medal and finished in 11th place out of nearly 100 runners. Marlette's next race is in Harbor Beach at the Waegner Park Invitation on Saturday, September 28.
The CPS Varsity Volleyball team was victorious Saturday at their annual CPS Invitational Tournament. The game scores for the round robin for CPS against North Huron were 21-7 & 21-11, Caseville 21-12 & 21-12, Peck 21-8 & 21-23, Memphis 19-21 & 21-7 and Port Hope 21-12 & 21-11. CPS entered the tournament as the top seat. In tournament play the scores were CPS over Caseville 25-8 & 25-8. In the finals CPS won over Memphis in 2 sets with scores of 25-19 & 25-21. Contributing players were Monica Falls with 48 points, 15 aces, 1 block, 58 assists & 13 kills; Amber DiRusso with 46 points, 17 aces & 1 kill; Kyanna Washe with 34 points, 12 aces 9 blocks, 1 assist & 30 kills; Sarah Albrecht with 28 points, 8 aces, 3 blocks, 1 assist & 33 kills; Gabrielle Frostic with 24 points & 5 aces; Katelyn Frostic with 21 points, 10 aces & 9 kills; Tiffani Nugent with 8 points, 3 aces, 5 blocks, 5 assists & 11 kills; Kasey Willis with 4 kills; Natasha Kandell with 2 kills & Hailey McWilliams with 1 kill.
