Florida man arrested in Montana, stolen vehicle linked to Sanilac County

(HELENA, MONTANA) -- A gasoline theft in southern Montana has led to the arrest of a man wanted for taking his young daughters from their legal guardian in Florida, on September 8. Officials in Citrus County, Florida said 45-year-old Edward Peters was arrested at 4:30 a.m. Thursday at a campground near Greycliff, Montana. The girls, ages 6 and 11, are doing well. Social workers and the FBI are arranging their return to Florida. Employees at a Laurel gas station reported someone filled up and drove off without paying on Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle matched the description of one stolen from a parking area at the Sanilac County Petroglyphs Historic State Park on Germania Road, where Peters' vehicle was found abandoned on Sunday. A Sweet Grass County deputy patrolling campgrounds around Prairie Dog State Park spotted the stolen vehicle and arrested Peters.
