CPS School board approves new teachers and discuss enrollment

(CARSONVILLE-PORT SANILAC) -- The Carsonville-Port Sanilac School Board Tuesday night approved the hiring of Brenda Thompson through Thumb Educational Services for the Great Start Readiness Teacher position at the district. The board also accepted the resignation request from P.E./Health Teacher Adam Dorland and Colleen Milton was hired to fill the position. Board members approved the hiring of Tracie Ritchie as a part-time Elementary Aide. Tracie is a Carsonville resident and has previous experience in school classrooms, the lunchroom and office aide work.

In other business, student enrollment was discussed at the meeting. The official student count day is October 2. Based on preliminary numbers, the CPS district is down 13.5 in K-12, but up 27 in the Alternative Education program and the Blue Water Virtual School. School officials say that at this point, the numbers are better than last fall and last spring.
