(SANILAC COUNTY) -- The Sanilac County Finance and Administration Committee met Tuesday afternoon and approved a number of requests from county departments. Committee members accepted a request from Sanilac County Veteran's Affairs Director Shannon Kreger for the purchase of a new transportation van for the department. Of the two bids received from area dealers, Tubb's Brothers offered the lowest, at a price of $23,179. The van will be purchased using funds from trading-in or selling older equipment, as well as from donations.
Committee members also approved a number of requests from the Sanilac County Sheriff's Department, including a bid from Orton Refrigeration in the amount of $5,400 for the installation of an air-conditioning system in the new jail's kitchen. It will be paid for using money from the jail contingency fund. Sheriff Biniecki also asked that the department's seasonal Marine Deputy be brought on as a part-time officer in the off-season. Biniecki stated that the Marine Deputy Gerard Marshall had performed his job so well that they "didn't want to lose him."
In other business, committee members heard from Heather Robinson of the Sanilac County Department of Human Resources. Robinson presented the department's 2014 child care budget, with a total amount of $200,000, along with a fifty percent match from the state. Finance and Administration Committee members moved to take all of the measures to the full Board of Commissioners meeting for consideration next Tuesday at the Marlette Township Hall at 7 p.m.
