Peck girl killed in car-pedestrian accident

(PECK) -- A 13-year old Peck girl was killed in car-pedestrian accident that happened Friday evening on the Galbraith Line Road, one mile east of M-19 in Speaker Township. Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies say that the victim, Emily Rosenthal, was struck by a vehicle driven by a 40-year old Melvin man as she was crossing the road. Deputy Josh Horst was first on the scene and began CPR immediately. Emily was transported by ambulance to McKenzie Hospital in Sandusky where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Accident Investigator Deputy Matt Armstrong reported that accident happened when the driver was not able to see the girl due to the low light conditions. The Melvin man was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident. The driver's name has not been released as the accident remains under investigation.
