(CASEVILLE TOWNSHIP) -- Huron County Sheriff Marine deputies were sent to Oak Point in Caseville Township Tuesday just before 6 p.m. to assist a powerboat that had run aground. The occupants of the boat were able to walk to shore with no injuries reported. Deputies learned from the boat's operator, Daniel Smith of Irons, Michigan, that they were fishing in the rough water, north of Oak Point. Waves had reached 4-feet at times. The driver decided to return to Caseville. He was unfamiliar with the area and ran aground. The 18' Sea Ray powerboat had to be pulled ashore with a tractor and removed by a local salvager. Sheriff Kelly Hanson says that this was the second incident of a boat grounding at Oak Point that his office has handled within the last 30 days. Mariners are advised to be familiar with the shoreline when traveling close to it.
