Port Huron man honored for promoting state history

(PORT HURON) -- A Port Huron man has been honored by the state for his work collecting data on Michigan's historical markers. Jim Brennan has spent almost 20 years collecting photographs and information on about 1,700 markers. He makes the information available for free on his website www.michmarkers.com. The city's information technology director recently received the 2013 Governor John B. Swainson Award by the Michigan Historical Commission for his work. The award honors state, county and municipal employees who go beyond their jobs to help preserve Michigan's history.
