Deckerville School Board recognizes staff for making Elementary a "Reward School"

(DECKERVILLE) -- The Deckerville School Board Monday accepted with regret the resignation of first grade teacher Holly Spangenberg. Four new teachers were hired for the 2013-2014 school year during the meeting. Angela Blank was hired for a 4th grade position, Ashley Mater will teach 3rd grade, Alex Schrauben was hired as a Jr. High/High School Math teacher and Katie Wessel was hired to teach 5th and 6th grade Language Arts and fill a 6th grade position. Deckerville School Board members also hired Monica Warczinsky as the district's 8th grade Volleyball Coach and Melissa Tank as the JV Girls Basketball Coach. In other business, the Elementary staff was recognized for the work and dedication in making the elementary a "Reward School" for the 2012-2013 school year. The Michigan Department of Education selects "Reward Schools" based on traditional risk factors to student achievement. Those schools are either outperforming their expected ranking or outperforming similarly-situated schools.
