(AREA) -- The Port Huron Police Department reminds residents planning on using fireworks during the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend that there have been recent changes to the state law and local ordinance. Fireworks use is only permitted the day before, the day of, and the day after a national holiday. In addition, during those nationally recognized holidays, fireworks may not be used between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. Violators will be issued a civil infraction, punishable by a fine of up to $500. A person using fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 30 days in jail or a fine up to $500.
