(MCKINLEY TOWNSHIP) -- A family of five was rescued after their 14' boat was located just southeast of North Island in the open waters of the Saginaw Bay early Sunday morning. Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson says dispatchers received a distressed boater call shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday. The man stated that he, his wife and three children had gone fishing earlier in the day on Wild Fowl Bay when they lost their sense of direction after dark. The boat wasn't equipped with navigational equipment and had poor lighting. Sheriff's deputies in a patrol boat attempted to find the family as they kept in contact with dispatch on a cell phone. The small boat was located shortly after midnight and towed back to Caseville. Conrad Schultz of Saginaw informed deputies that some of his family members had gotten wet and became cold as the waves reached nearly 2-feet at times. No injuries were reported.
