(HURON COUNTY) -- The Huron County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal accident that happened Friday around 2 p.m. Huron Central Dispatch received a call about a northbound car side-swiping a southbound camper on Elkton Road, near Stein Road in Oliver Township. The car's female driver apparently waited at the scene for several minutes before getting back in her car and continuing northbound. As deputies were responding, dispatchers received a second call about a northbound car hitting a semi-tractor trailer head on along Elkton Road, north of Berne Road in Chandler Township. The truck driver, 55-year old James Siewer of Pigeon, reported that he had to bring his truck to nearly a complete stop because of the northbound vehicle entering his lane. The car continued on and made impact with the semi. The car's driver, 50 year-old Dawn Champagne of Cass City, had to be freed from her vehicle with by the Oliver Township Fire Department's Jaws of Life. She was later transported to Scheurer Hospital where she later died from her injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
