(PIGEON) -- DTE is hosting a complimentary family BBQ for customers in Huron and Sanilac counties Thursday, August 15 from 4-8 p.m. in Pigeon. The Wind Energy Celebration at 6922 Filion Road, is DTE's way of thanking customers for embracing renewable energy development in their communities. Along with food, there will be music provided by the Laurie Middlebrook Band, children's activities from the Ann Arbor Hand-on Museum, face painting, a magician, and inflatable castle. Residents must register by Wednesday, August 7 at http://www.dtebbq.eventbrite.com
Wind park development is part of DTE Energy's plan to meet Michigan's renewable energy goals. DTE Energy expects to add about 950 MW of renewable power, or about 10 percent of its power, by 2015. The company plans to own facilities to supply up to half of that power and contract with third-party producers for the remainder. The majority of the company's renewable energy will come from wind resources, but it also has a solar energy pilot program that could produce approximately 22 MW.
