Tuscola County Sheriff's Department warns of Deed Scam

(AREA) -- Tuscola County Sheriff Lee Teschendorf reports that another scam is targeting area senior citizens. Teschendorf says residents are getting letters in the mail from several companies urging them to make copies of their deeds for various reasons. These "companies" are using the word "urgent" and phrase "limited time offer" to pressure residents into thinking it's necessary to purchase the copies quickly. They are charging around $85 for the service when a copy of a deed costs $1 at a county Register of Deeds office.
