(LAPEER COUNTY) -- Seventeen public transit systems from around the state competed in the 38th Annual Michigan Small Bus Roadeo in Mt. Pleasant on July 19, with competitions held for individuals and teams. Drivers competed in Roadeo events designed to test the skills and knowledge of Michigan public transit bus drivers. Drivers competed for points based on a written test, their driving skills on an obstacle course, a test to load and unload a wheelchair passenger, and a pre-trip vehicle inspection. The title of "Rookie of the Year" went to Robin Lemeron of Greater Lapeer Transportation Authority. According to MDOT, there are more than 3,700 buses on Michigan streets daily, serving 100 million passengers.
