(SANDUSKY) -- The Sanilac County Republican Party will present an informative discussion on the Common Core education standards proposed for K-12 schools throughout the country at Demott's Westpark Inn in Sandusky at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18th. The feature speaker is Debbie DeBacker of "Stop Common Core in Michigan." Common Core is a set of state education standards to be used across all states beginning in 2015. The stated goal of the Common Core State Standards is to provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. Many parents and educators have expressed concerns about possible unintended consequences. Over the past 20-years, DeBacker has focused on the education reform process while lobbing legislators and helping draft legislation. The event Thursday is free of charge and open to anyone concerned about the education process.
