(CROSWELL) -- Construction work continues in downtown Croswell. Streetscape and road construction along S. Howard Avenue started this month after the city was awarded a $253,000 Michigan Strategic Fund grant through the Community Block Grant Development for the installation of 40 decorative LED streetlights with Wi-Fi, parklet construction, and other improvements. Work is expected to be complete by mid-October. The project also includes sewer and water infrastructure upgrades and the reconstruction of roadways and sidewalks costing around $2 million. City officials are running into increased inspection and administration fees because the project budget was planned over 3-years ago. A recent increase of $130,000 in grant funding has helped offset some of those additional costs. Residents and visitors are reminded that all downtown businesses will remain open during the construction and parking is available behind those buildings. Project updates will be posted on the City of Croswell facebook page.
