Autopsy reports back in July 4th Shooting Incident in Tuscola County

(TUSCOLA COUNTY) -- Authorities in Tuscola County say that autopsies were performed as part of the continuing investigation involving the deaths of two people in a July 4 shooting in Gilford Township. Officers responded to the home in the 9900 block of Van Geisen Road after a family member reported that their father stated that their mother was dead inside the house. The suspect, 53-year old James Edward Garcia, was killed during gunfire exchange with two deputies and a Caro Police Officer.  It was determined that 54-year old Donnieca Ann Garcia died of a single gunshot wound inflicted hours before the arrival of police. One of the deputies was shot in his protective vest by Garcia and was treated and released from Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. Prosecutor Mark Reene says that all three officers returned fire after the initial shot by Garcia struck the deputy. An investigation continues by the Michigan State Police.
