(GILFORD TOWNSHIP) -- Two Tuscola County Sheriff's deputies exchanged gunfire with a man Thursday. The man was killed and one of the deputies was injured. Authorities say the deputies responded to the home on VanGeisen Road near Reese Road in Gilford Township shortly after 4 p.m. A family member called 9-1-1 after confronting their father who stated that their mother was dead on the floor. The deputies and a Caro Police Officer set up a perimeter around the house. The man then came out of the home and started firing a weapon at the officers, who returned fire. The deputy that was injured in the gunfire exchange was treated at a Saginaw Hospital and released. He is reportedly doing fine. The Michigan State Police are investigating and no other information is being released at this time. An updated press release says autopsies are scheduled on the dead man and woman.
