(BROWN CITY) -- The Dr. Duane E. Smith Memorial 5K Walk/Run was held on June 8 in conjunction with the annual Thumb Soybean Festival in Brown City. The event is organized by the staff of Family HealthCare of Brown City. The 17th annual event was carried out the same week that their long-time local physician Dr. Michael A. Ogboh passed away. As a heartfelt tribute to honor Dr. Ogboh, the community rallied for the event including family members and friends, to commemorate his life as a provider of care, a coach, a community member, a husband, a father, and a dear friend. Friends and family members proudly wore vibrant colored shirts with Dr. Ogboh's name printed on the back. Out of 103 participant runners, first place was awarded to Danny Jones with a time of 18 minutes and 51 seconds. Daniel Carroll placed second, followed by Dr. Ogboh's son, Donovan, who placed third. Event proceeds totaling over $2,000 were allocated to United Hospice Service to financially assist patients who are unable to afford their hospice care. Dr. Ogboh always expressed his passion for hospice services and insisted that patients be cared for at the highest level. The memorial event will be renamed next year as the "Dr. Michael Ogboh Memorial 5K Walk/Run."
