(SANILAC COUNTY) -- The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners met yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon and received the annual financial audit report for the 2012 fiscal year. William Tucker, a representative from Abraham and Gaffney, told commissioners that the agency awarded the county an "unmodified/clean" opinion, which is the best opinion given on financial statements. Tucker also reported that the county had $8,837,241 in general expenditures last fiscal year, which is a 2.9 percent increase from 2011.
Commissioners also received an annual report from Sanilac County Veteran's Affairs director Shannon Kreger. A total of $13,445,000 was given to Sanilac County veterans in 2012, including healthcare coverage. 252 veterans either passed away or moved out of the county, and a total of 4,101 flags and markers were placed on veterans' gravestones.
In other business, commissioners honored Sanilac Medical Service director Steve Kipp for his 7 years of service to the county. Commissioners also accepted the terms of a grant agreement with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to install handicapped accessible playground equipment at Forester Park.
