Brown City police cruiser strikes cyclist

(BROWN CITY) -- Michigan State Police are investigating an incident involving a police car striking an individual on a bicycle in Brown City Friday night. Authorities say a 10 year veteran of the Brown City Police Department was responding to an emergency involving a suicidal person with a knife just before 10:00 Friday night, and was traveling eastbound on Main Street in emergency mode. At the intersection of Reed Street, a bicycle heading northbound attempted to cross the road and was struck by the patrol car. The bicyclist, a 16 year old male from Brown City, sustained serious injuries and was flown by LifeNet to Hurley Medical Center in Flint. The officer was not injured. Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by the Brown City Fire Department, Sanilac County Sheriff Deputies, Marlette Police, Marlette EMS, and the Croswell Police Department. The crash remains under investigation.
