Bad Axe man involved in Hit and Run Jailed

(BAD AXE) -- Authorities arrested a Bad Axe man Friday after he left the scene of a hit a run accident, crash his vehicle and fled into the woods. Bad Axe Police say the hit and run accident took place at E. Huron and North Street just before 10:30 a.m. A caller informed dispatch that the driver of a red pickup truck was leaving the Village Square Apartments and struck a westbound vehicle. The driver then fled th e scene heading east. Officers at the scene learned that a red pickup truck had entered a ditch at M-142 and Hellems Road and the driver took off on foot. Officers pursued the suspect through a wooded area and help from witnesses resulted in his arrest. The 37-year old Bad Axe man was taken to Huron Medical Center for treatment of his injures. He faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, reckless driving, resisting and obstructing law enforcement, and operating a vehicle while in the presence of drugs. Bad Axe Police were assisted by the Huron County Sheriff's Department and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division.
