(SANDUSKY) -- Nurse Practitioner Suzette Walker, DNP, FNP-BC, AOCNP, will join McKenzie Health System (MHS) in June.
"We are pleased to add the exceptional clinical skills and patient-care focus of Suzette to our team," said Steve Barnett, President and CEO of MHS. "She has focused on primary care for 33-years with a specialty in oncology, which will enhance the patient-care excellence at McKenzie."
Suzette earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Michigan in Flint. Her DNP was preceded by a Master's degree from Concordia University in Mequon, Wis., a Bachelor's degree from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and an Associate's degree from St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, Mich. Suzette will work with James L. Sams, MD, five days per week. "I look forward to meeting residents from our community and helping them manage their healthcare," said Suzette. "We'll emphasize overall wellness, including exercising, nutrition, preventative care and testing." "Unfortunately, some illnesses are hard to fight off," continued Suzette. "This is why I've also focused on palliative care to aid patients in receiving the best care for chronic illnesses and diseases in all stages."
Suzette will continue her work as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the School of Nursing at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. There, she developed and implemented the Symptom Management and Supportive Care Program and oversees all clinical research in the program. Serving as Co-Director of the Program, she provides medical management of patients with cancer and those in need of end-of-life care. Suzette also works with several nonprofits, as well as serving on several advisory boards. These include the Oncology Nursing Society, Advisory Board for Oncology Education Services, IMER Nursing Advisory Board and the Amgen Advisory Board.
