Child struck by vehicle along M-25 in Forester Township

(FORESTER TOWNSHIP) -- An 8-year old child was struck by a car Sunday afternoon around 2 p.m. along M-25 just south of Downington Road in Sanilac County's Forester Township. Sheriff's deputies say the 8-year old girl was walking south on Lakeshore Road with a friend when she darted into the path of a van driven by 46-year old Kurtis Galloway of New Haven, Michigan. Deputies say the girl suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Deckerville Hospital. She was later transported by flight care to Hurley Medical Center in Flint for treatment. An investigation at the scene and witness statements revealed that the driver of the van attempted to avoid an accident by braking and swerving. Deputies say alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The Port Sanilac Fire Department assisted deputies at the scene.
