(AREA) -- Vassar native, Army Sgt. Travis Mills, will be the keynote speaker at the 19th Annual Memorial Service in the Michigan Senate Thursday, May 23 in Lansing. The ceremony is held every year to remember and honor Michigan residents who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation while serving in the armed forces during the pervious year. Sgt. Mills is one of only a few servicemen to lose all four limbs in combat during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and survive. He was injured by an improvised explosive device April 10, 2012 during his third deployment to Afghanistan. State Senator Mike Green of Mayville says he can't think of anyone better to lead in honoring and remembering fallen colleagues than Sergeant Mills, adding that Mills inspires in all of us the utmost pride in the men and women who serve our nation, past and present. The ceremony is open to the public.
