(IMLAY CITY) -- A 22-year old Imlay City man was pronounced dead at the scene of a fire at an apartment complex the morning of April 20. Authorities say the manager of the complex located in the 500 block of Townsend Court in Imlay City called 9-1-1 after smelling smoke. The 16-unit, two-story building was quickly evacuated. The Imlay City Fire Department was assisted by Attica Township firefighters and Lapeer County EMS personnel. The victim, Kenneth Dahn, was found in an upstairs apartment living room. Fire officials say the blaze originated in the kitchen at the stove. The fire burned upwards from the stove top, through the cupboards, across the ceiling, and spread out to the living room. The fire had put itself out and there were no flames when fire crews arrived. Fire investigators believe the initial cause of death was smoke inhalation. An investigation into when and how the fire started continues.
