(CARSONVILLE-PORT SANILAC) -- Carsonville-Port Sanilac Schools is offering teachers with 15 or more years of service to the district a severance package. Those interested and eligible are asked to submit an application for participation by May 31. According to Superintendent Ann Binienda, the district has around 10 teachers eligible. Depending on the number that take the offer and which building they are in, there could be an adjustment to the district's cost savings recommendation of reducing the staff by four positions. The reduction in staff was most likely to be in grades K-5. The CPS School board is expected to review the recommendations at their June board meeting, which are pending due to declining enrollment and less state aid. The proposed recommendations also include a 5% reduction across the board in expense items, adjusting the Great Start Readiness Program teaching position, and reviewing the Athletic Director and Schedule B positions and transportation fees.
