(FORESTER TOWNSHIP) -- Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies report that a 44-year old Birch Run man escaped serious injury when his 12-foot aluminum boat flipped over, causing him to fall into the frigid waters of Lake Huron in the 5200 block of North Lakeshore Road in Forester Township.The incident happened just before noon on Saturday when Michael Christenson of Birch Run was in his boat fishing. The boat overturned and Christenson was submerged in about 18-feet of freezing water. Christenson's wife was on shore working. She told officers that she saw the boat was flipped over and called 911 when she didn't see her husband. Christenson was able to get out of his waders while in the 37-degree water and swam to shore prior to help arriving. He was treated on the scene by Sanilac EMS and Port Sanilac Rescue. Christenson was in the cold water for about 15 minutes and stated that he was not sure why the boat flipped over. Deputies were also assisted by the Sheriff's' Department Dive team and the U.S. Coast Guard.
