Worth Township crash lands Croswell man in jail

(WORTH TOWNSHIP) -- The 36-year old Croswell man involved in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Worth Township is listed in serious, but stable condition at McLaren Medical Center in Macomb. The driver of that vehicle, 33-year old Andrew Scott Lerma of Croswell, was arraigned Monday in Sanilac County District Court on charges of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, failure to stop at a serious injury accident, failure to report an accident and operating with no license.The crash took place around midnight along Babcock Road near Burnsline Road when Lerma lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road and struck a tree. Lerma fled the scene before a passing motorist stopped and called 9-1-1. The passenger, Lupe Lerma, was pinned inside the SUV and freed by the Lexington Fire Department's Jaws of Life. Andrew Lerma remains jailed on a $25,000 cash bond. His preliminary examination is scheduled for April 30.
