(LUM) -- State Representative Kevin Daley of Lum is calling on Michigan residents to sign up to become a potential organ donor through the Secretary of State and support the Donate Life Program by purchasing a Donate Life license plate. The plates are $35 and $10 goes to the Thomas Daley Gift of Life fund, helping promote organ, tissue, and eye donation. Thomas was the son of Representative Daley and his wife Deborah. He passed away 2-years ago at the age of 23 from injuries he sustained after a tree he was helping cut, fell and hit him. Daley stated that because of Thomas' decision to be an organ donor, he helped four people. Legislation requires that 2,000 license plates be sold in the first year in order to keep the Donate Life program going. To date, 908 plates have been sold, which mean that another 1,092 need to be sold by August for the program to continue. To purchase a Donate Life license plate or join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry, residents should visit the Michigan Secretary of State's website or any branch office.
