(ELKTON) -- Authorities believe a 19-year old Elkton man died from a drug overdose last Friday. The victim, Ryan Shemka, was found unconscious and not breathing at the Maude Street apartments in Elkton around 6 p.m. Police say Shemka and his 21-year old girlfriend had been intravenously injecting each other with methadone while consuming alcohol, just prior to the 9-1-1 call. An investigation led Huron County Sheriff's deputies to request a search warrant for a residence at 665 S. Van Dyke Road in Colfax Township. Seized during the search was several methadone pills and cash. A 51-year old man at the residence was questioned and released. Charges are pending. Sheriff Kelly Hanson reminds residents to report any suspicious or known drug activity to authorities.
