(SANILAC COUNTY) -- An early morning chase with police landed a 27-year old Croswell man in jail. Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki says Sgt. Nathan Smith attempted to make a traffic stop on Babcock Road near Roach Road in Lexington Township around 2:40 a.m. Friday for a traffic violation and operating while intoxicated investigation. The suspect vehicle, a Ford F-150 pickup, took off eastbound on Roach Road, south on M-25, and then west on Harrington Road where the driver lost control on a patch of ice. The pickup spun out of control and ended up overturned on its side in the ditch. The Croswell man escaped injury and refused treatment at the scene. No damage was reported to any of the police vehicles involved in the pursuit. The man faces charges of fleeing and eluding, second offense OWI, violation of a restricted operators license, open intoxicants in a vehicle, and probation violation. Sheriff's deputies were assisted by Croswell Police, the Lexington Fire Department and Croswell EMS.
