(UBLY) -- Ubly School board members unanimously voted to extend Elementary Principal Joel Brandel's contract for 1-year during a packed meeting Monday night. Brandel's contract, which includes a $110,300 annual salary with benefits, was set to expire on June 30. Discussion was held over the last few weeks on the reorganization of administration at the district. A proposal by Superintendent Rocky Aldrich included replacing the elementary principal position with a part-time literacy-intervention teacher, purchasing textbooks, and purchasing iPads for 5th-9th grade students next school year. A number of parents and staff members voiced their objections to not renewing Brandel's contract during the meeting. Brandel has been with the district for 16-years, getting his start as a counselor. With the 7-0 vote to extend the contract for another year, Superintendent Aldrich says cuts will have to come from somewhere else.
