(HURON COUNTY) -- Three Huron County communities along Lake Huron have been selected for harbor dredging funding. State Representative Terry Brown of Pigeon says the Caseville Municipal Harbor will receive $630,000 and the Harbor Beach Municipal Marina and Port Austin State Harbor will each receive $700,000. Representative Brown says that with lake levels at historic lows, he is glad the state has recognized the situation and allocated the funds to make dredging possible. According to the DNR and the Michigan State Waterways Commission, the more than 800,000 registered boats in the state generate billions of dollars in economic activity and more than 51,000 jobs. Lake Huron's water level is 16 inches lower than it was a year ago and harbor dredging is necessary for boats to continue entering and leaving public harbors and marinas.
